Water Hyacinths

Water Hyacinths float on the surface of a pond or water feature. They produce purple hyacinth like flowers in the summer months. These floating plants can quickly multiply to several times what was originally installed in the pond due to their vigorous growth habit. They prefer full sun. They are considered an annual water plant in Iowa as their hardiness is zones 9 to 11.


Water Lettuce/Cabbage

Water Lettuce floats on the surface of a pond or water feature. It is ornamental foliage resembles a cabbage or lettuce head. These floating plants can quickly multiply to several times what was originally installed in the pond due to their vigorous growth habit. They prefer full sun. They are considered an annual water plant in Iowa as their hardiness is zones 8 to 11.



Water Lilies

Water lilies can be used in ponds and water features to add interest and color. The produce flowers during the summer months in all shades of the rainbow except blue or purple. Water lilies can be very vigorous growers and can quickly take over a pond if too many are planted. They need full sun. There are hardy varieties that may be left in the pond during the winter or stored if they are a tropical variety.



Water Lotus

The Water Lotus plants add interest to water features and they also provide a habitat for fish and pond wildlife. The round leaves can reach 2ft in diameter and the stems can grow up to 3.5ft tall. The leaves may lay flat in the water or if they are above they will be rounded. The plant produces unique yellow flowers and seed heads during the summer months. Place in full sun. They are not hardy to Iowa so will need to be stored indoors during the winter months or treated as an annual.



Red Stemmed Thalia

This plant is grown for its bright red stems and green foliate that adds interest to any water feature. It also produces pink flowers in the mid-summer. It can grow 6ft to 8ft tall and requires full sun. They are considered an annual water plant in Iowa as their hardiness is zones 8 to 11.



Umbrella Plant

The umbrella plant ad unique umbrella like foliage that adds interest to any water feature. They can grow 6ft to 8ft tall and wide and must be planted in the pond or in a pot that is placed in the pond. Place in full sun. They are considered an annual water plant in Iowa as their hardiness is zones 8 to 11.
